A message from our President

Hi everyone, I’m Sam, a third year reading Human Geography and your JCR President – welcome to Trevs!

In Trevs, you are welcomed to a warm and thriving college, with so many opportunities and experiences which I believe will give you the best university experience possible. We’re ambitious, have lots of fun and you’re free to get involved in as much or little as you like. Fresher’s week will be a blur with so much going on – formals, bar nights, a ceilidh, matriculation and more, but we’d like to think you’ll be able to call this place home before it’s over. We’re inclusive, diverse and have a real community atmosphere, and no description of Trevs is complete without mention of the word ‘friendly’.

Nor will you find a better college music scene in Durham. At Trevs, you’ll find a huge range of musical societies, regular open mic ‘Unpluggeds’ in the bar, the annual ‘Live on the Hill’, our summer music festival ‘Trevstock’, and high quality musicals showcased every year. Regardless of ability, there’s something for you. We hold a high proportion of University musicians who always come back to help the college out, whilst our societies love to nurture new (or non-existent in my case) musical and dramatic talent!

We hold an equally great sporting side, with teams for all major sports competing at the highest level in the college leagues, lots of ‘DU’ (University Level) talent and loads of sports you might never have heard of, let alone played before! All are keen to welcome everyone, from first-timers to seasoned sports men and women looking for high quality sport, at a more relaxed level with a great social side.

Add DUCK, comedy, games and all of our academic societies into the mix, and I guarantee there’s something for you. We’d love to see you involved in the running of the JCR – either on one of our many committees, in an elected position, or through JCR meetings which is your chance to speak out and make the changes you want. Besides societies, we have a huge social calendar for the JCR, reaching a climax at the Summer Ball in June. We aren’t afraid to knuckle down to a bit of work too, when the time calls for it!

I hope I’ve convinced you to take a look around our website for further insight into the Trevelyan College experience and I’d strongly encourage you to pay us a visit at one of our Open Days to see it for yourself. Please don’t hesitate to drop me an email with any questions about college, JCR or university life and I’ll do my best to get back to you in the best way possible.

Many thanks,

Sam
